    Addressing Scalability and Performance Challenges

Artlogic, a global provider of technology solutions for over 4,500 galleries, artists, and collectors, supports more than 12,000 art world professionals and 10 million artworks. Its platform offers comprehensive tools for customer relationship management, event planning, website management, sales, marketing, logistics, storage, shipping, and payments via Artlogic Pay. With a 35-year heritage, Artlogic continues to expand into new markets and offerings, operating from offices in the UK and USA. In 2021, Artlogic secured a strategic investment from Cove Hill Partners, bolstering its growth trajectory.

To sustain its impressive growth and onboard customers efficiently, Artlogic needed to evaluate the capability and capacity of its platform and development teams. The increasing effort required to add new customers and features indicated software challenges stemming from the platform's evolution. With a new VP of Engineering joining, it was an opportune moment to assess the current status and devise a forward strategy. This involved gathering data on technology, people, and skills to support the case for change and evaluate system design. Key objectives included ensuring scalability, addressing performance and reliability issues in the inventory system, and improving consistency and communication within globally dispersed technology teams.

I’ve worked with Codurance for a long time now, and their engineers and solutions are first class. Their Software Quality Assessment confirmed my initial assessment of our existing systems and gave me data-driven insights that supported my technical modernisation roadmap and the investment required to achieve this.

    Comprehensive Software Quality Assessment

During a 4-week engagement, Codurance conducted a Software Quality Assessment (SQA) with Artlogic, reviewing six core modules of the platform. They collected data on knowledge distribution, test automation, code extensibility, quality, security, and development processes. To minimise disruption, Codurance used focused workshops and advanced tooling to gather insights. They interviewed key C-Suite stakeholders to understand the product roadmap and future platform requirements, conducting weekly check-ins to keep the Artlogic team informed and validate findings. At the end of the engagement, Codurance presented their findings and recommendations to the Artlogic C-suite and principal investor, Cove Hill Partners, providing an easy-to-read report with both an executive summary and detailed analysis for further review by the VP Engineering and other stakeholders.

    Software Quality Assessment

The Software Quality Assessment (SQA) is a solution for companies striving to measure and improve technical excellence. The SQA provides a holistic, unbiased and data-driven assessment, covering not only the quality of the software itself but also the quality of the development process, knowledge distribution and key contributors.

    Outcome

Empowering Growth: Implementing Data-Driven Strategy for Artlogic's Software and Team Development

After receiving the Codurance SQA report and recommendations, Artlogic was able to have a clear understanding of the current state of its software, processes and technical skills and where investment would be needed to realise its business goals. The business is now empowered with data-driven recommendations to implement its strategy across its software, platforms and people to deliver accelerated growth to meet its customer and investor objectives.
